New moms are often overwhelmed with emotions and advice from others. The best piece of advice for new moms is to take everything one day at a time. You will make mistakes, but you will also have many successes. New moms although they may feel like it, are not alone. Here are pieces of advice for new moms:

1. Get organized and make a schedule

The most important thing for new moms to remember is that their schedules will change often. They might be able to feed and nap at certain times, but then need an extra hour after dinner or before bedtime because the baby has woken up again! The best advice I can give you as a friend in this situation? Keep track of everything on paper so it doesn’t slip your mind later down the line- especially with all those hungry babies out there waiting patiently by chair cushions.

2. Don’t forget to take care of yourself

It’s easy to get lost in the baby bubble and put all your focus on your little one, but remember- you can’t pour from an empty cup! In order to be the best mom possible, you need to make sure you’re taking care of yourself both physically and mentally. Get enough sleep when you can, eat healthy foods, and take some time for yourself every day- even if it’s just 10 minutes to read a book or take a bath.

3. Join a support group

There are tons of other new moms out there who are going through the same thing as you! Look online or in your local community for support groups specifically for new moms. It can be really helpful to talk to other women who are in the same stage of life as you and share advice, stories, or just vent about the tough parts of motherhood.

4. Ask for help

This one is hard for a lot of us, but it’s so important! We can’t do it all alone and that’s okay. If you have family or friends who offer to help, let them! Whether it’s watching the baby so you can take a break or just doing some laundry while you feed, any little bit helps.

5. Trust your instincts

You know your baby better than anyone else, so trust your gut when it comes to decisions about their care. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t be afraid to ask for help from your pediatrician or another trusted source.

6. Take advantage of nap time

Naptime is a precious commodity for new moms! Use this time to get things done around the house, take a quick shower, or just relax for a few minutes. It can be tempting to try and get a million things done while the baby is sleeping, but be sure to listen to your body and rest when you need it to.

7. Get out of the house

It’s easy to feel like you’re stuck at home when you have a baby, but it’s important to get out and socialize when you can. Visit friends or family, go for walks in the park, or even just run some errands. Getting out of the house will help you feel more connected to the world and like yourself again.

8. Have patience

Parenthood is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be good days and bad days, but it’s important to remember that this is just a phase. It might seem like it’s never-ending now, but one day you’ll look back and cherish all the little moments (even the tough ones).

9. Don’t compare yourself to others

Every family is different and every baby is different. What works for one mom might not work for you and that’s okay! Find what works best for you and your baby and don’t worry about what anyone else is doing.

10. Take lots of pictures

The days are long but the years are short, so be sure to document all the special moments! You’ll be so glad you have these memories to look back on when your baby is all grown up.

11. Enjoy the ride

It’s not always easy, but parenthood is one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have. Try to savor the good moments and learn from the tough ones. Before you know it, your baby will be all grown up.
