Model Kindness Yourself

Kindness is a quality that is very contagious in nature. However, if we see or hear someone performing an act of kindness, we are drawn towards that quality and feel the need of performing it ourselves. On hearing or seeing someone perform an act of kindness, we ourselves wish or feel the need of helping out too. Research suggests that altruistic children have at least one of the parents who share or pass down the same act of kindness to their child as well. When pre-schoolers have caring and altruistic caregivers around them, they seek them to be their role models. This helps them, in turn, to be more helpful and empathetic to others as well.

There have been researches that prove that making kids feel responsible or accountable to their actions in some or the other way, helps them being kind in nature as a whole. Putting the needs of others or however, considering their needs which at times can be more important than one’s own, in turn, helping them makes the child kind in nature.

 Young children who receive material goods or rewards in return for helping others are most likely to become less helpful in the future as they grow up. There have been researches which says that children who are motivated which rewards on being kind can undermine the quality of being kind in their near future. This tendency backfires, instead of praising the kind child for helping others is any day a better option for the mind-set of the child and his or her growth as well.

Be Positive

Parents should express positive ideas and feelings at times of raising their children. Children raised in a non-coercive environment are more disciplined, kinder and compassionate towards others. Using positive parental techniques, however, benefits the child and his overall development at a wholesome level.

Expose Them To Need

Parents have the tendency of protecting their children from pain and suffering. They always try to give their children to the best of their capabilities, in turn, however, sheltering them from all the discomfort that they may experience. The parents should rather give positive teachings to their children, show them the other perspective of life, which will help them being compassionate and understand what others in life face.
