Child Development Components – Understanding Your Unique Child

Raising a child can be difficult at times. In other words, knowing the child development component framework is crucial. It can help you understand your child’s different needs as per the stage. This will, in turn, make your parenting job much easier. A process in which a child grows and learns new milestones is known as Child Development which includes standing, sitting and walking. As they are crucial for a child’s development. In addition, these milestones enable parents to measure the learning and growing process. There are five major child development components, which are:

Cognitive Development:

Therefore, cognition is defined as the ability to be self-aware and solving problems by critical thinking. As a result, a two-year-old can solve cognitive problems by touching and recognizing things. For instance, a 5-year-old is capable of displaying cognitive ability by solving mathematical problems.

Emotional/Social Development:

Firstly, social development defines a child’s ability to socialize and interact with others. Secondly, emotional development defines how they react to situations. It includes helping themselves and to exercise self-control. For example, a six-week-old baby smiling at her father is a sign of emotional development.

Language and speech Development:

Language development defines the child’s ability to use speech to communicate, understand the world, and express feelings. For instance, a 12-month old trying to utter his first words. Another example, a five-year-old getting his pronunciation right. Above all, these signs showcase speech development in children.

Fine Motor Skill Development:

First of all motor skill development defines a child’s ability to use muscles strength. For instance, this determines their ability to move objects, turn pages, etc.

Gross Motor Skill Development:

Gross Motor skills define the child’s ability to use larger muscles. For instance using their hips, thighs, and elbows. Moreover, by utilizing these muscles, a child can perform heavier duties. For example, moving a chair, and pulling furniture.

Development milestones are a way for parents of knowing their child’s development is on track and your parenting style is doing okay. A development milestone is any skill a child acquires within a time period. It can be literally any skill. A child learning to walk between the age of 9-15 months is a child development milestone.

Every child shows varied biological growth. A child experiences certain milestones late in his/her life. There is nothing to worry if there is a delay in 3-4 months. Initially, if your child shows no sign of development. You should consider seeing a child care specialist. As a parent, you’ll definitely want your child to meet all of the milestones and understand their biological needs. A child’s development largely depends on his/her genetics.

To improve your child’s development process. You can incorporate a few things you can incorporate into your parenting style:

  • Give your child special attention and lots of love.
  • Interact with them by talking, singing, playing, eating together.
  • Read a variety of interesting books with them. Preferably, book with a lot of pictures and graphics.
  • Invest some time in educating your child how to behave and act as per the situation
  • Limit TV and screen time
  • Analyze how your child learns differently in his/her childhood and align the same into your parenting styles.
